Thomas Meyer: light on horizon for European market

IBM has retained top spot among server vendors in Western Europe for 2001, according to research firm IDC. In fact, IBM gained 3.9% market share despite last year’s challenging market conditions – representing a 96% increase in revenue for Q4 2001.

According to IDC, the Western European server market continued to fall in Q4 2001 to reach $3.283 billion revenue. However Thomas Meyer, IDC’s European Server Expertise Centre Manager, said: “Although the market continued to experience a double-digit decline on the quarter a year ago, the healthy growth of 24% it experienced sequentially points to a light on the horizon for the European market, coming after three quarters of sequential declines.”
